FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.....
- What types of services can I benefit from? Depending on your dog’s needs, we can individualize a program for you and your dog. Every dog has specific needs based on his/her personality, energy, and breed tendencies. Check out our services/rates page.
- Where will we train? Most obedience problems can be address with in-home training. Dogs will learn basic obedience and commands utilizing their own food and behavior problems addressed in a balanced approach. Sometimes, rarely, do we train at our place due to distraction. It is inherently unfair to ask a dog to learn a new skill in the presence of others dog's scent; however, if we are working on a specific problem or behavior or you want to proof a learned skill or behavior then we can utilize my healthy, balanced pack.
- Will you train us as well as my dog? Absolutely! One on one training is included in the price. You will also go home with a pamphlet of how to continue the training should you forget a specific detail. We are in a lifetime partnership for the life of your dog.
- How do you fix bad behaviors? Much like people, dogs need to have consequences for bad choices. We have helped many dogs by utilizing this approach. The consequence needs to be greater than his desire to do the behavior. We train with food to teach the behavior, and use progressive discipline to address or eliminate unwanted behaviors based on the dog's temperament.
- What if I don’t like to punish my dog? A dog without appropriate yes’s and no’s most often leads to bad behaviors; sometimes unintentional or intentional. Dogs need to understand rules and boundaries much like people do. Even in the wild amongst packs, dog learn consequences from fellow pack members. We cannot help owners who are not willing to provide discipline to their dogs. “Progressive” discipline starts with the LEAST amount of punishment and gradually builds until the dog learns the consequence.
- What happens if I don’t see results? Dogs know how to push boundaries. There is a misconception that dogs are “fully trained”. No dog is ever fully trained, just maintained. The purpose of dog training is to set the dog on a good path with clear communication and expectations. It is the owner’s responsibility to maintain the training. We will teach the dog everything to bring out the best in your dog, but ultimately, the results are based on the owner’s willingness to continue the training. Failure to understand this concept will lead to loss of your hard-earned money.
- Do you work with aggressive dogs? After initial consultation and meeting with the dog, I will make a determination of how to safely train you and the dog at your location. Aggression is usually the symptom of a problem. Revealing the problem comes with structure, clear communication, and expectations. Most often, insecurity and lack of clear boundaries usually present and we will address the underlying issue in a constructive way. We like to find what motivates your dog and build on that to begin training.
- Are tools included in the price? No. Tools can be purchased from us or you will be directed to a link to purchase on your own.
